Recycling (Intermediate Process)

The recycling process breaks down into a number of phases – collection, transportation, separation, crushing, compressing, distribution and re-use. These processes often involve considerable time-consuming labour. The labour-intensive nature of the work means that much waste material sent for recycling is not properly separated at the time of collection. One of our main tasks at Eco Recycle is to carefully check and separate the materials in order to remove alien substances and reduce the bulk before passing them on to the re-use manufacturers. These pivotal intermediate processes of “separation”, “elimination” and “bulk reduction” have a significant impact on the overall quality of the recycling end-product distributed to re-users.

4) Production of RPPWGF (Solid Recovered Fuel)

From Hiroshima to the World…..with state of the art technology….

The “Intermediate processes” of the recycling industry are the pivotal point of the entire system. The intermediate process facility of Creative Co., Ltd. is known as the Eco-Recycle Port Systems.

Eco-Recycle Port separates and compresses recyclable waste in an environmentally friendly manner, producing a ‘regenerated resource’ to be used as raw material industrial input or Fuel for energy generation.

Eco- Recycle Port’s processes do not contaminate air, water or soil, nor do they include burning or heating.  This eliminates the risk of producing toxic chlorinate substances in the processing of plastics.

Eco- Recycle port uses no processes requiring the use of water and collects no liquid or liquid filled waste products. Thus there is no risk of runoff or spillage of contaminated liquids into the ground or waste-water systems.

Incidentally water/liquid residue is collected and appropriately disposed of.

Eco-Recycle Port promotes the concept of an ‘Open Recycling Facility’ to educate as many people as possible about the entire recycling process to help them understand how to turn waste materials into usable resources.

Through openness, we wish to convey our commitment to help preserve the environment through community and environment centred business practices and a harmonious relationship with the community.

Eco-Recycle Port, Hiroshima pioneered the policy of showing real-time video of the separation process on its web-site. Through these on-site cameras, not only other businesses but also the general public can observe each phase of intermediate processing on their personal computers.

At Eco-Recycle Port, we strictly monitor the intermediate processes to prevent leakage of confidential information. Internal controls of our system, from collection to processing, eliminate the risk of information leakage.

Overview Of Recycling 90%+ Recycling Target

The average amount of waste produced per capita per day in Japan is 1 kg. A family of five therefore generates 5 kg of waste daily. For the past ten years, this average has remained constant.

The percentage of waste being recycled has remained at only 15% over the same period of time. As the estimated remaining life of landfill sites in Japan is 12.2 years for general waste materials and 3.9 years for industrial waste, the issue of waste disposal will be with us for some, time. It is becoming increasingly evident to all of us that a world which consumes a huge and ever-expanding range of products using up vast quantities of limited natural resources, ultimately disposing of the residue from this wasteful consumption by burying it in landfills is unsustainable. We must therefore recycle, through the collection of unused waste materials and the processing of them back in to the resource cycle.

RPPWF (Solid Recovered Fuel)

RPPWGF is an abbreviation for Refuse Paper Plastic Waste Fuel. The constituent elements of RPPWGF are non recyclable Paper, Plastic and Wood waste that is disposed of in Land Fill sites.

Like other advanced societies, Britain is grappling with the dilemma of how to dispose of its rising tide of domestic and industrial waste. The situation is further complicated by the fact that the European Landfill Directive now means we have no option but to reduce the amount of waste sent to landfill.

Eco Recycle offers a permanent solution to a local waste problem by using our Solid Recovered Fuel – RPPWF technology.  RPPWF is a local fuel using local waste, resulting in many environmental benefits.

Using our expertise in the field of Solid Fuel Technologies, every care has been taken to develop RPPWGF in compliance with the emerging CEN regulations for Solid fuels in the EU.  RPPWGF is a fuel with high bio-mass, carbon neutral content which generates a constant supply of high grade energy. This means that local carbon dioxide emissions can be reduced by incorporating RPPWGF as the replacement to more traditional fossil-based fuels. RPPWGF is being viewed as a new revolution in the field of alternative and ecological energy generation in Japan.


With the current unprecedented spike in the price of oil, the world is on the cusp of a fully-fledged energy crisis. Oil by-products and other fossil fuels have become intolerably expensive and the global markets on which they are traded are all experiencing uncomfortably high levels of price volatility. It is a matter of increasing urgency that industry quickly learns to adopts alternative sources of energy to comply with the global surge in demand for environmental reform.

• Energy from waste – RPPWGF is made from Non-recyclable Paper, Plastic and Wood waste. It is the most appropriate way to utilize the waste material for commercial application and reduce the use of land filling.

• Renewable Energy Source – RPPWGF reduces dependence on non-renewable fossil fuels such as coal and oil.


• High Biomass – RPPWGF has high biomass content. 1 kg. of RPPWGF contains 0.7 kg. (700 gm.) of wood and paper. The plastic content is only 0.3 kg. (300 gm.). This leads to a significantly high level of combustibility and a disproportionately high calorific value which serve to greatly increase efficiency in energy generation.

• Clean air In the production of RPPWGF, the ecological recycling process does not involve heating or burning. This eliminates the risk of producing toxic chlorinate substances that normally feature prominently in the processing of plastics. From plastic waste, Vinyl Chloride materials, known to generate toxic substances, are isolated in the separation phase.

• Clean Water – The production of RPPWGF uses no processes requiring the use of water.  As result, there is no runoff or spillage of contaminated liquids into the ground or waste-water systems. This protects the water table, water courses and water treatment facilities from the adverse effects of increased levels of pollutants.

Zero Waste Management No waste residue is produced throughout the production processes of RPPWGF.


• Constant Supply of High Energy – RPPWGF has a calorific potential of 6000 Kcal/kg (25.116MJ/kg), making it a more efficient fuel than coal at 6000 Kcal/kg (25.116MJ/kg).

• RPPWGF can be used in any coal or oil based industry which is heat intensive such as the cement industry, car manufacturing or in Brick Kilns, etc.

• Depending on the supply of raw material (waste paper, wood and plastic waste) RPPWGF plants can be designed with the capacity  to produce the fuel between 800kg – 3000 Kg/ of Solid Recovered Fuel per hour.


• Clean and Allergy Free – RPPWGF contains no dust or dirt and is not dirty to handle unlike coal, peat and oil

• Storage Efficiency – RPPWGF requires less storage space than any other fuel of proportionately comparable calorific potential

• Ease of Transportation – the dense, compact nature of the finished product make RPPWGF easy to transport

• Simplicity – RPPWGF is as easy to use but less unwieldy, more energy efficient and effortlessly sustainable than wood

As a preventive measure against global warming and in order to reduce waste-material levels, in accordance with the stipulations of Kyoto Treaty, Oji Paper Co. Ltd., a major paper producer in Japan, has entered into an agreement with Eco-Recycle Port

Oji Paper Co., Ltd Oji Paper Co., Ltd., Yonago Factory

Oji Paper Co. Ltd., Japan decided to substantially reduce CO2 discharges from its facility by using RPPWF, a new clean energy source, replacing petrochemical fuels such as coal and oil.

At present, Oji runs its various manufacturing units, including the Yonago Factory, on Solid Recovered Fuel – RPPWGF produced in our Hiroshima facility.

Eco-Recycle Port is setting up here in the UK in order to disseminate the use of RPPWGF. Meanwhile, our parent company in Japan will continue to develop innovative technologies in our mission to find solutions to global challenges such as emission levels, pollution, the proliferation of land fill, the depletion of natural resources and climate change.

By setting up in the UK we are looking for long term partnerships with local municipal authorities and the waste management, recycling and energy generation industries. By doing this we can maximise the benefit of our technologies and help make a positive contribution to the UK’s effort to deal with climate change.

Waste is my treasure. Do you think this strange? Just think for a moment about how many natural resources we have wasted in the last century?  We have consumed vast quantities of wood, metal and petrochemicals, all of which are precious resources of our planet.


A lifetime Dream …

To be at the forefront of Environmental Protection, Community Responsibility and Stewardship of the Planet.

I dared to predict 25 years ago that: ‘Waste will no longer be Waste’. Paper, cans, wood chips, plastic, glass, etc. could all be reused as ‘recyclable resources’.

Ten years ago, I established the concept of an Ecology Recycle Port in the belief that disposable waste was to become a valuable commodity, though the importance of recycling had not yet been fully recognised at that time.

Later, legislation such as ‘Basic Law for the Establishment of a Recycling-Based Society’ was introduced in Japan and we revised our ‘Waste management and Public Cleansing Laws. Japanese society then began to rapidly move towards the trend of recycling. 

In 2004, our Eco-Recycle Port in Hiroshima was recognised as the largest facility in the Chogoku and Shikoku regions of western Japan handling the intermediate processes of recycling of various waste materials. My dream of thirty years had been realised.

Now I dare to make another prediction. I predict the end of the Fossil Fuel based economy. The economy of the future will be based on Alternative Fuels such as RPPWGF (Refuse Paper Plastic Wood and Glass Fuel).
